Douglas A. Sawyer, CCIM, CIPS

President

A graduate in civil engineering from North Carolina State University, REALTOR Sawyer is President/Owner of Sawyer Properties, Inc., specializing in commercial and investment real estate. He is also a principal in Phoenix Properties, Inc., a firm created in 1991, for the purpose of owning investment real estate. Doug has been active in commercial real estate for 32 years and specializes in commercial sales, office leasing and development of small retail concentrations, shopping centers, and industrial space. His clients include many of the larger institutional companies located in his market.

Doug has served in many capacities within the real estate community including 2001 President of the Virginia State Association of REALTORS. He was 1997 President of the Roanoke Valley Association of REALTORS and was named its REALTOR of the Year in 2000. Doug was also very instrumental in establishing the Commercial Advisory Council for the Virginia Association of REALTORS and served as its initial Chairman during 1996-97. Doug has participated in Virginia’s 2004 Economic Development Task Force, and the Virginia Real Estate Board's Commercial Licensing Law. Doug has also been very active in the Virginia CCIM Chapter and served as its 2000 President.

On a national level, he has recently been elected to the office of President for the CCIM Institute's Education Foundation, a subsidiary of the CCIM Institute that promotes education in the real estate profession. Doug serves on the Board of Directors and various committes within the Institure and is the current Faculty Committee Chair. Within the National Association of REALTORS, he is an elected National Director representing the State of Virginia.

Doug is also a Senior Instructor for the CCIM Institute's CI 101 and CI 102 courses, two of the accredited courses used in obtaining the prestigious CCIM designation, and was honored as the 102 Instructor of the Year in 2001 and 2002. He has taught throughout the United States; Moscow and St. Petersburg, Russia; Warsaw, Poland; and London, England. He is also a former member of the faculty of the REALTOR Institute of Virginia.
